Title: Croft House, Church Street - Set 2
Click to download original image
Croft House, Church Street, was the birthplace in 1852 of Herbert Henry Asquith who was British Liberal Prime Minister from 1908 to 1916. It is a late Georgian manufacturer's house which had business premises behind, fronting on the street which when the house was built was called Windmill Hill Lane. Pictures of the house, a listed building, taken when Mr Asquith was Prime Minister, show more traditional sash windows, like the fanlight doorway, in keeping with the Georgian style.
