Title: Old Golden Fleece, Churwell Hill - Set 3
Click to download original image
Here, the Old Golden Fleece Public House on Churwell Hill, at the left is shown next to Hargreaves' Newsagent-Tobacconist shop. There are records of an inn and hospitium on this site dating from the I5th century. This photo is from the 1930s, shortly before the pub was demolished to make way for the present building. Before motorised transport, the Melbourne Brewery kept extra dray horses at the bottom of the hill to take beer to the Fleece and other pubs in Morley.
