We have spent much time and effort showing how the town and its inhabitants were affected by the start of the Battle of the Somme.
A booklet – ‘Morley and the First Day of the Somme’ – was published which contains extensive details of the men from this area who were casualties as a result of action on 1-July-1916. This contains a map of the area where they fought, photos of a number of the casualties and a table of men on the Morley Memorial who were killed during the course of the whole battle. Newspaper clippings also show how the local people received news about their loved ones.

On the following Sunday we went to Colsterdale where members of the Leeds Pals were trained and details of this can be seen at:
