Alderman Joseph Schofield – the unanimously elected first Mayor of Morley

1886. Alderman Joseph Schofield (1834-1898) was unanimously elected the first Mayor of Morley. He was a mill owner and a Methodist. He served two successive terms. He was a member of the Local Board, the fore-runner of the Borough Council, from 1866 to 1896. He was a Liberal and Primitive Methodist, married with 5 children.
