The death of King George V was announced on 21-Jan-1936 in the evening but, on this occasion the Mayor is making a formal declaration of respect for the dead monarch and proclaiming the new monarch to a large crowd of Morleians from the Town Hall steps. A little later he made the same speech to 1200 school children who were seated in the Alexandra Hall inside the Town Hall.
