At this time, there were two mills either side of the Town Hall. A fire broke out amongst some rags stored in the Albert Mills (shown in the lower photos) and sparks from this carried over to the Town Hall. Despite the attentions of several fire brigades, it was not possible to save the dome of the Town Hall due to its height. However, it was reconstructed later.
